Welcome to Zalewski Performance

After retiring from a ten-year professional hockey career, I’ve shifted my focus to helping develop the next generation of young athletes. Zalewski Performance offers both small group on-ice sessions, as well as dynamic clinics aimed at developing well rounded competitors.

My goal is to create a fun, supportive environment where players of all levels can grow their skills, build confidence, and explore their creativity. Every player is unique — different sizes, movement patterns, and playing styles — and their training should reflect that. At Zalewski Performance, athletes interact with intentional drills, movement sequences, and small-area games designed to help them develop skating and puck-handling skills in a way that fits them.

Three core foundations guide my approach:

1. Skating
Today’s game is built on dynamic, deceptive edge work. When players feel stable, strong, and shifty on their edges, they gain the confidence to expand their creativity and impact the game in meaningful ways.

2. Playing With Their Head Up
Developing comfort handling the puck while scanning the ice leads to better vision, smarter decisions, and safer play. As players grow and the game becomes more physical, being able to read pressure early and avoid dangerous contact is essential. My goal is to help players understand the game in a way that keeps them safe and prepares them to succeed at any level.

3. Developing High Character Teammates

Life is a team sport, and hockey provides a powerful reflection of that. To me, success is never defined by a single stat. While goal scoring, playmaking, and defensive ability all matter, true success comes from developing qualities beyond the scoreboard. Being a great teammate, staying coachable, playing unselfishly, and leading by example are what turn talented players into complete players — and set them up for success both on and off the ice.

Zalewski Performance is about more than building hockey skills — it’s about helping young athletes grow into confident, capable, and creative players who love the game.

Coach mike Zalewski

Former Professional Player & Development Coach

I spent 10 seasons playing professional hockey, including time in the NHL, playing under Stanley Cup–winning coaches, competing with the Utica Comets, and spending six seasons in some of Europe’s top leagues. After retiring from playing, I dedicated the past few years to learning from coaches and performance experts around the world.

Now back in New Hartford, NY—where I grew up and first fell in love with the game—my passion is helping young athletes develop skills and build confident, creative mindsets that elevate their performance both on and off the ice.
